

Even from here, chntpw still did not run (I am sure for the same reason as the other versions I tried). So I went and purchased Parted Magic for $15 (one time instead of $13/quarter) and it was having trouble running with the default options, so I ran it in memory only and it brought me to the Ubuntu desktop with all of the tools. I had a problematic Windows 10 Pro laptop with only local accounts and it would boot to the rescue USB and start the chntpw linux app from two different flavors of boot CDs - hiren's and pogostick - but ran into the same error for both: "clocksource tsc unstable" which stopped the app from getting to the screen showing you the numbered options so you could actually use the chntpw app. I know this is an old post and nobody will see this, but if I found it googling, maybe this will also help others.
